Don & Harmony

Our journey began in 2014 after residing in the town of Florence, Oregon for a little more than two years.  Our intention was to support our hard working, locally owned restaurants through offering them a delivery service; while serving the elderly, disabled, and busy families who would otherwise be unable to receive a freshly made meal.

Philosophy

Community Means Everything!  We believe deeply in the value of community, and the part we all play in service of one another.  The stability of any society relies upon commerce and economic growth, but is for nothing without mutual respect, consideration and community support. Everything we do - from providing free delivery services to mom & pop owned restaurants, to the way we treat their customers, all boils down to being in service to and honoring this wonderful community.

WHERE WE STARTED

"I’ll never forget the very first order we received. I was so excited and nervous. I recall it was storming that evening when I arrived to a home with no exterior lights on. I walked through the gate and up to the door. I noticed the door was ajar, which seemed strange but I was determined to do my job. I knocked. I was met with a strained voice that asked me to enter.

I peeked into the home to see a gentleman sitting in his living room. It was immediately apparent that he was unable to walk well. The kind man explained that he was was injured recently at work, leaving him unable to cook for himself.

He was so thrilled to have his dinner, ready to eat, delivered and hot!

I left that home with a tear in my eye knowing that this was the purpose of Florence Food Delivery.  I was so proud and grateful to have an opportunity to serve our beautiful community."  ~Harmony

Life's Ups and Downs

For many years our son was extremely ill, and the doctors here were unable to diagnose his condition.  After numerous visits to the ER, in 2016 we decided to make a very difficult decision and we moved our son to Portland Oregon to be closer to larger hospitals and medical care facilities.  That year we sold our beloved business, still in its infancy, to a local business owner.

In 2019 our son was exhausted from more medical professionals uncertain as to how to help him. That year we made the decision to relocate back to Florence. Home at last!

After settling in we realized that our little local business was no longer in operation. The new owners did not have the means to continue running it and had closed the business. During our stay in Portland, Don spent time working with Uber and Door Dash.  He had learned a lot and wanted to implement improved methods into Florence Food Delivery.  In 2018 we celebrated our grand Re-Opening!  Things were going great!

As we entered into 2020 our son’s health dramatically declined.  In February 2020, the pandemic mandates shut our beautiful town down.  Everything came to a halt. We lost our momentum and our delivery drivers, who were dependent upon the income. With the restaurants uncertain as to whether or not they would be open from day to day, we made an incredibly disheartening decision to close the business.

A month later our son slipped into a coma. It was then that this amazing and beautiful community of Florence Oregon supported our family in a way I never could have imagined. The loved poured out to our family and we are forever grateful.

THIRD TIME'S A CHARM?

Everything in our lives changed.  For two years it was all about recovering and learning.  Harmony became a Certified Nutrition Consultant, learning the complexities of the human condition.  We both worked from home to be with the kiddo.  Our son recovered from acute Kidney failure and was learning to manage his autoimmune disease.

As we entered into 2023, the word of the year was HOPE. Hope for a new beginning. Hope for greater things. Hope for healing. Hope for creativity. We felt immensely hopeful.

With our community recovering from the past couple of years, Don and I questioned if there could be a new hope for local food delivery.  We have a new perspective on life, and this may mean taking things slowly, and limiting availability at first. After much thoughtful reflection, a decision was drawn and we are very happy to say that Coastal Food Delivery was born!

Third time's a charm?  We shall see.
